How It Works

The Electric Internet system works by attaching special coupler devices to a building’s power infrastructure at key locations. Generally these are placed where power facilities enter the structure. The couplers are connected together via coaxial cabling and then to a BPL gateway or gateway-extender device. To facilitate service, the implementation is supported by a combination of routers, switches, a customer access gateway, and remote management equipment. Once the core infrastructure is in place, each electrical outlet in the building is ready to be used to tap into the network using a BPL modem.
